Jurong East Town Council Approves Community Connectivity Enhancement Scheme, Construction Starts December 2026 in Yuhua and Teban Gardens
Residents in Yuhua and Teban Gardens estates will encounter new pedestrian walkways and bike paths from December onward under the scheme funded in the 2026 town council budget.
How we reported this
The Jurong East Town Council approved the Community Connectivity Enhancement Scheme at its regular meeting on July 7, 2026. The vote passed with support from a majority of councillors and directs S$45 million toward new pedestrian walkways and dedicated bike paths in the Yuhua and Teban Gardens precincts.
The scheme addresses resident requests logged during the 2025 neighbourhood feedback exercise conducted by the town council. Those records showed repeated calls for safer routes between public housing blocks, MRT stations and neighbourhood centres. The policy document states that works will begin in December 2026 and finish by June 2028.
Daily movement changes for residents
Residents who walk or cycle between Yuhua Community Club and the Jurong East MRT interchange will use the first completed segments by the second quarter of 2027. The same timeline applies to new paths linking Teban Gardens to nearby schools and the Jurong East Regional Library. Vehicle traffic on the affected roads will face temporary lane reductions during construction periods listed in the project schedule.
The town council budget paper for fiscal year 2026 records the S$45 million figure as drawn from accumulated reserves rather than new resident levies. Maintenance of the new infrastructure will shift to the standard town council operating budget after completion, according to the same document.
Next steps after the July vote
A public briefing session is scheduled for August 12, 2026, at the Jurong East Community Club to present detailed construction maps. Residents may submit written comments on the alignment of paths until September 15, 2026. The town council will publish updated progress reports on its website every quarter beginning in January 2027.
